I drew a couple of erotic comics in 2006, which is also when I began using the name Joe Zu. More recently, I’ve been experimenting with creating erotic art using GIMP. Initially I was doing very quick crude sketches with Microsoft Paint, just for fun. Then, after a while, I began to prefer the pixelated outlines and flat colors to “serious” art. Mind you, that doesn’t mean it’s easier; it’s just a different way to create art.

Generally I sketch the art with pencil on paper, scan it, then “trace” over it and color it with GIMP. Japanese culture influences much of my work. Sometimes I do the sketch in GIMP as well, creating a more cartoony look.
