Stay healthy, everyone!

My name is Joe Zu. I am an erotic artist and photographer. I also write a blog, primarily about sexuality but sometimes other subjects, particularly gay culture and history in Japan. My site also contains various resources, including reading materials about healthy sexual relationships and organizations offering help to victims of domestic violence or those considering suicide. I’m based in Portland, Oregon.

Before COVID-19, I did work as a professional Kink Instructor and Dom, Sacred Intimate, and Bodywork Practitioner in Palm Springs. It remains to be seen whether I will resume this work; I will only do so when I can ensure the safety of both myself and my clients. In the meantime, I am offering virtual services such as communication training and dream interpretation.

Be sure to visit me on Twitter!

I believe in:

1. Being non-judgmental. I’m open-minded about what consenting adults do or fantasize about, be they straight, gay, bi, male, female, trans, genderqueer, vanilla or kinky, young or old, top or bottom, Dom or sub, monogamous or open or polyamorous. I think eating cauliflower is gross, but I’m not going to judge the people who enjoy it. If you get off on wearing a Santa Claus costume and dumping Spaghettios on your head while listening to bagpipe music, more power to you! Plenty of people judge LGBTs already—we don’t need to do it to each other.

People don’t stop needing physical pleasure just because they get old. Even if certain parts of one’s anatomy don’t perform like they used to, there are many other paths towards sexual and sensual pleasure.

2. The diversity and potential of the sexual experience.
Sex isn’t just about getting off and instant gratification; it is about communication and intimacy. It can be fun, funny, relaxing, invigorating, liberating, energizing, and transcendent, whether you’re making love or being tied up and worked over in a dungeon.

3. Informed and responsible play, especially when it comes to BDSM. You don’t just pick up a whip and start flailing away at someone any more than you would go skiing in Aspen without a few lessons. Being a Dom doesn’t mean you do exactly what you want to someone without their consent, and being a sub doesn’t mean you can’t set limits for others.

One of the most satisfying parts of my work is enlightening people about their own kinks and desires, demonstrating that there’s nothing immoral or bad or shameful about having them.

Some testimonials:
“I found Joe to have an open mind and to be willing to explore the more unusual aspects of my sexual needs.”

“His knowledge of kink and other activities allows you to explore that side of yourself ...”

“He has an intuition about the art of fisting that cannot be taught.”

“I’ve never experienced such a powerful and pleasurable experience.”

“[Joe] is friendly, passionate, and fun. He respects all limits while at the same time helping you push your own.”
